Frequently asked questions

What is RAZ Reader?

RAZ Reader is a web application for PDF reading, narration, English-to-Chinese translation, pronunciation practice and progress tracking. It is not an official Reading A–Z or Raz-Kids product and is not affiliated with those brands.

Do I need to install a mobile app?

No. Open the website in a browser. Recording requires HTTPS and microphone permission. If an in-app browser cannot record, try the phone’s system browser. The application interface is currently primarily Simplified Chinese; this page and the project documentation are available in English.

Can multiple readers keep separate progress?

Yes. Create a separate account and nickname for each reader. The website shows the current nickname and completed-book count. A device can remember multiple accounts; switching accounts changes the associated level, progress, recordings and scores.

What does the pronunciation score mean?

The scorer compares recognized sounds with the reference text for the current page and highlights words to practice. The interface uses 80 points as its practice threshold. Automatic recognition can be wrong; this is practice feedback, not an examination or a professional language assessment.

Is it free and can I self-host it?

The hosted reader is currently free to use. The application source is available under Apache-2.0, with separate licenses for third-party dependencies. You can run it on your own computer or server using the deployment guide; hosting may have its own costs.

Are commercial RAZ books included in the repository?

No. The repository contains application code and original demo material. It does not include commercial RAZ books, book audio, personal recordings, account databases or production credentials. Bring PDF books and audio you have the right to use.
